Polyacrylamide hydrogel as the longest-lasting single injection
Polyacrylamide hydrogel — marketed as Arthrosamid® — occupies a distinct category from everything covered so far. These studies are observational and open-label — the randomised controlled trial data that underpin confidence in HA and PRP at scale are not yet available for polyacrylamide hydrogel. Safety data beyond 24 months remain limited, and which patients are most likely to respond well has not been systematically established.
The honest position is that this is a mechanistically novel option with the longest single-injection evidence window currently published, supported by a promising but still-maturing evidence base.
What affects how long any injection works for you
Two patients receiving the same injection in the same clinic can come away with very different durations of benefit — and the product itself is rarely the only explanation.
Disease severity is the most consistent predictor across all four injection types. End-stage OA responds poorly regardless of what is injected; the evidence for HA, PRP, and polyacrylamide hydrogel all point in the same direction on this point. Earlier-stage disease, treated at the right moment, offers the best chance of a sustained response.
